State Electricity Department Employees to Protest in New Delhi

GUWAHATI: Employees of the power department of the state have decided to take their protest to New Delhi. As many as 100 employees and workers associated with the department are planning to take their problems to the capital city.

This group of protesters will be led by the Assam Chapter of the Committee of Electricity Employees, Engineers & Pensioners on Wednesday, November 23. The Assam Chapter has responded to the appeal by the National Coordination Committee Of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE).

The protest is a call to action against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill of 2022 according to the office bearers of the association. They will also take part in the protest program in New Delhi.

Representatives of the organization have mentioned that the key demands of this protest include the immediate withdrawal of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill of 2022. They also want the standard bidding document for the privatisation of electricity and transmission monetization order to be revoked. The withdrawal of the privatisation process of the power services in all States and Union Territories of the country, especially with respect to Puducherry and Chandigarh is also demanded.

The demands also include the cancellation of all existing deals related to privatisation and the use of franchises in the private sector and the reintegration of all power utilities in the States and Union Territories. They need to be integrated with components necessary for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.

They have also demanded the reintroduction of the Old Pension Scheme for all employees of the industry and the regularisation of all the contractual and casual employees of the organisations. They also ask for the immediate filling of all the vacancies of departments in different states.

The employees of the state had also protested against the same act in the past. They had protested in front of Bijulee Bhawan in August this year.
